Conference: Anniversaries in English Literature
The year 2015 is rich in anniversaries in British and American Literature: the 150th anniversary of Rudyard Kipling’s birth, the 240th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, Mark Twain’s 140th anniversary. In this regard, an International conference entitled ‘2015 Anniversaries in English Literature’ was held at Western University on April 27.
In her opening speech, Alla Bayramova, Head of the Department of English Philology, detailed the purpose and significance of the event. Along with WU lecturers, researchers from Baku Slavic University, Azerbaijan University of Culture and Art and foreign researchers from England, Spain, Canada and other countries discussed issues related to the works of outstanding representatives of English Literature.
Honorary guest at the conference Dr. Firuza Melville, Director of the Cambridge Centre for Persian Studies, shared her thoughts with the participants.
