Western Caspian University Recognized Among Winners of "Karabakh GreenTech" Hackathon

Western Caspian University Recognized Among Winners of "Karabakh GreenTech" Hackathon

The "Karabakh GreenTech" hackathon has ended within the framework of the "Investment Opportunities in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur" project organized by the Public Union "For the Progress of Karabakh" and the Agency for State Support to NGOs.

Over 300 young individuals took part in the competition, showcasing ideas in agricultural innovation and alternative energy. Eight participants advanced to the next stage, where they further developed their projects at the ASAN Innovative Development Center.

On the second day of the hackathon, MVP products were showcased, and three teams emerged as winners. Among them was the ECOPIONEERS team from Western Caspian University, which included Hasanov Eshqali, a Forestry graduate, Aisha Latifova, a Translation student, and Nijat Yarov, an Ecology student. Another team from our university also received a certificate of recognition.

The students from our university proposed a significant advancement in landscaping and greening efforts in Azerbaijan. Their project involved the use of locally developed Spray Lawn technology, which helps conserve water in green spaces while promoting both aesthetic and efficient plant growth. The special formula includes a mix of seven different tree roots, two types of fertilizers, and other natural materials. This innovative approach provides even growing conditions by distributing seeds and fertilizers uniformly, reducing environmental impact.

The project has reduced water consumption by 30% and ensured that green areas have a healthy and aesthetic appearance. The team offers lower costs and higher efficiency compared to traditional methods with spraying Lawn technology. This startup is an important step towards ensuring sustainability for landscaping and Environmental Protection.

The mixture enables the restoration of degraded, burnt grasslands, and eroded areas. By partnering with local municipalities and landscaping companies, the team aims to transform landscaping practices in Azerbaijan. They are committed to expanding the reach of locally produced technologies and promoting eco-friendly green solutions in international markets. Their primary goal is to restore damaged green belts in the Karabakh region and utilize local products in the reconstruction efforts.

Notably, the jury of the hackathon is representatives of public and private institutions operating in our country. These institutions include the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Agrarian Innovation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, "Innovations Center" LLC, "Kapital Bank" OJSC and others.

It is worth mentioning that over 300 young individuals from 96 teams applied for the "Karabakh GreenTech" hackathon. Out of these, more than 65 young participants, representing 17 teams, earned the opportunity to take part in the event. At the final stage of the hackathon, three ideas were selected as winners, and the products developed by these teams will be showcased in the "Green Zone" during the COP29 conference. The winners will also receive mentoring and co-working support to help grow their businesses leading up to the COP29 event.
