Results of Karabakh Conflict Discussed
The Centre for Applied Politics of Western Caspian University held a press conference concerning ‘Karabakh Conflict: Results of the Year’. Head of the Centre, political scientist Mr. Elkhan Shahinoghlu gave information about the 3-month activity of the Centre for Applied Politics and mentioned that students have already prepared analytical material as political analysts and can act as experts in the press.
Commenting on the talks on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict in 2017, Mr. Shahinoglu mentioned that 2017 can be characterised as a dynamic year at the frontline and negotiating table. “Although negotiations are ineffective and tense war continues, Armenia should be tired of this war more quickly, because the state is getting weaker and the people are living in an unbearable state. Armenian youth do not want to die for another land. However, Armenian authorities are trying to extend negotiations”.
He indicated that although Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia will hold official elections in 2018, Baku is the most interested party in the short-term resolution of the conflict, and would make an effort to continue active negotiations. Then, the students-experts expressed their views on the latest situation in the conflict and the perspectives of the conflict settlement. Experts of the Centre answered journalists' questions and exchanged views on the subject. An analytical publication ‘Karabakh: 2016/2017’ was presented.
The WCU Centre for Applied Politics operates ‘Karabakh’ and ‘Multiculturalism’ laboratories where students conduct research on various aspects and prepare analytical materials.
