Scientific Conference in WCU

The Republican scientific conference on "Onomastic units in the study of the past history, ethnogenesis, social relations of the people" was held at the Western Caspian University.

The conference was attended by specialists and researchers from Baku State University, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Nasimi Institute of Linguistics and Literature Baku Slavic University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Baku University of Engineering, The Azerbaijan Higher Military Academy and Sumgayit State University.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, the rector of the Western Caspian University, Professor Andres Leitas, noted that the university pays special attention to conducting research works in various fields. "We plan to direct the intellectual base of the university to scientific research. Our goal is to maintain and diversify high-level educational standards, as well as to become a prestigious research university known not only in the region but around the world,” said the rector.

Professor Leitas spoke about the programmes implemented by the university in recent years, noting the importance of the newly established laboratories and centres for students to receive high quality education and acquire practical knowledge.

Dr Sevinj Aliyeva Professor Lala Guliyeva, Professor Buludkhan Khalilov, all of the school of Philology and other contributors spoke about the importance of the conference and expressed confidence that the Western Caspian University's efforts to bring researchers together in the field of science will lead to further research developments.

The conference then continued in plenary session.

Discussions were held on the topics related to onomastic units, their role in the history of the people, onomastic units in the language of ancient monuments, poetic-stylistic features of onomastic units, onomastic norms, onomastic units in the works of writers and poets, theoretical bases of onomology, characteristics of onomastic sources, etc.
