Co-Organizer of the 3rd International Conference “Mountains: Biodiversity, Landscapes and Cultures” — International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA)
The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) is one of the world’s leading international federations in the fields of mountaineering and climbing and serves as a global network for the international mountain community. Founded in 1932, the UIAA currently represents 99 member associations in 77 countries, encompassing more than 3.45 million people worldwide.
In addition to mountaineering and climbing, the UIAA’s areas of activity encompass mountain conservation, environmental sustainability, safety, mountain medicine, and the preservation of mountain cultures.
Cooperation between Western Caspian University (WCU) and the UIAA has been ongoing for many years. In 2019, a meeting of the UIAA Mountain Protection Commission was held in Baku at the Western Caspian University Institute of Mountain Culture and Landscape Studies.
A significant example of this longstanding cooperation was the International Conference “Mountains: Biodiversity, Landscapes and Cultures,” jointly organized by WCU and the UIAA in 2014 and 2019.
In 2026, this partnership continues with preparations for the 3rd International Conference “Mountains: Biodiversity, Landscapes and Cultures.”
