Global Mountain Ecosystems and Resource Management Hybrid Summer School Takes Off with International Collaboration
In a remarkable collaborative effort, the Grassroots Institute of Canada, Romania's Valahia University of Târgoviște and Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, the World Forum on Rural Agricultural Heritage in Italy, and the NatRisk programme at the University of Turin, together with Ukraine's Lviv Polytechnic National University, Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, and the Carpathian National Nature Park, as well as the Rural Development Fund of Kyrgyzstan and India's Central Himalayan Nature and Applied Research Institute, have successfully launched a hybrid summer school on the topic of "Mountain Ecosystems and Resource Management." This ambitious venture has drawn participation from 630 individuals representing 69 countries.
The opening ceremony of the Summer School, held on September 10th, featured a keynote address by Professor Huseyn Bagirov of Western Caspian University. On September 13th, Professor Bagirov delivered a captivating presentation on the subject of "Threats to and Conservation Measures for Mountain Biodiversity." During his discourse, he highlighted the growing global concern surrounding the threats faced by mountain biodiversity and the imperative need for discussions regarding its preservation.
With concrete examples illustrating the pressing challenges, Professor Bagirov underscored the emergence of new initiatives in this field and stressed the importance of intensified international efforts to address these issues. This collaborative undertaking promises to contribute significantly to the ongoing discourse surrounding the protection and sustainable management of mountain ecosystems and resources on a global scale.
