Norwegian Scientist Thor Heyerdahl commemorated at Western Caspian University
Western Caspian University hosted an event in connection with the memorial day of the world-famous Norwegian scientist, ethnographer, traveler, honorary professor of the university Thor Heyerdahl .
Professor of Western Caspian University Huseyn Bagirov, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Head of Department in Mingachevr State University Farah Jalil, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associated Professor Gorkhmaz Mustafayev, Associated Professor of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts Malahat Farajova delivered speechs at the event, and analyzed the scientist's scientific activity and research about Azerbaijan.
Notably, The Norwegian navigator, ethnographer and anthropologist is notably known for having crossed in 1947 a good part of the Pacific Ocean on an open boat, the Kon-tiki, built in balsa wood, in order to question the origins of the Polynesian people.
A scientist who also conducted research on Azerbaijan called Gobustan "a museum under the open sky".
The Exhibition Center dedicated to Thor Heyerdahl was opened at the Western Caspian University within the framework of the Film Festival dedicated to the 100th anniversary of scientist held on May 12-20, 2014.
The museum exhibits documentary films of the scientist, newspaper and magazine articles, books about his expeditions, some of them written by Thor Heyerdahl himself, handwritten postcards, pictures from his great travels, as well as archival materials including photos taken during his visits to Azerbaijan.
