WU Hosts International Conference
An International Conference on ‘Translation as an Art and Science’ was held at the Western University within the framework of the joint project of TURKSOY (International Organisation of Turkish Culture).
Traditionally, the conference is officially opened with an artistic presentation. In the art section, students from the Faculty of Western Languages presented fragments from world literature translated into different languages.
Then Head of the English Philology Department, Dr Alla Bayramova welcomed the participants and guests and delivered a speech to the representative of Azerbaijan in Turksoy Elchin Gafarili. Later, Betty Bler, Editor-in-Chief of Azerbaijan International magazine, and Sevil Fuks, Associate Professor at the Herford National University in Germany also added their views to the subject.
The contemporary problems of translation are covered in the conference including various linguistics, cultural studies, literary translation, art criticism, intermediation, etc.
The conference was attended by professors and teachers of WU, as well as representatives of the Caucasus University, Azerbaijan State University of Languages, Institute of Literature named after Nizami and Linguistics Institute named after Nasimi and a number of specialists from Germany, Spain, Turkey and Kazakhstan.
