Gunel Rahimli was born in 1988 in the village of Vanand, Ordubad district, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In 2005, she graduated from School-Lyceum No. 261 in Baku. From 2005 to 2009, she completed her bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of History, Baku State University. Between 2009 and 2012, she continued her graduate studies at the Department of Ancient and Medieval History of Azerbaijan at the same faculty. From 2014 to 2017, she was a doctoral student at Baku State University’s Department of Azerbaijani History, where she wrote her dissertation titled “The Safavid Rule of Ardabil and the Qizilbash Ideology.” On March 17, 2023, by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of Azerbaijan, she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History.
During her academic career, she has participated in various courses and trainings such as Business English: Networking (University of Washington), Get Organized: How to be a Together Teacher (RELAY/GSE), Presentation Skills: Designing Presentation Slides (Tomsk State University), Strengthening Research Capacity in Azerbaijan (ADA University), Islamic Art (Aga Khan Museum), Microsoft Office Programs (ANAS Institute of Information Technology), Academic Writing and Scientific Reviewing (IKSAD, Turkey), Researcher Connect Online Training Programme (British Council), and Gender Equality: Women in Focus, Combating Violence Against Women During the Pandemic (Human Rights Institute and UN Population Fund).
She has presented at international and local conferences and published 24 scientific articles in national and international journals.
