2016 - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria;
Our graduate has been working as an adviser on economics at the Azerbaijani embassy in the United States. Nargiz Gurbanova has been an active participant of all the economic conferences related to the Caspian region and Azerbaijan over the past four years.
She was frequently involved in intense discussions with the participation of UK BP representative Greg Sonders, US State Department Energy Officer Daniel Stein, Director of Energy, Natural Resources and Geopolitics Institute Ariel Cohen.
For example, in October of 2012, she emphasized the importance of providing US political support to the energy projects at the Black Sea and Caspian Basin Research Center of the American University.
In April of 2013 in  the event organized by Johns Hopkins University's Central Asia-Caucasus Institute in Washington, DC, the "Istanbul Process - April 26, Astana Meeting: Towards a Clarity in Afghanistan after 2014", Gurbanova pointed out using of the territory of Azerbaijan as transit zone  during the withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan. Nargiz Gurbanova was also closely involved in SOCAR's activities in the United States.
Currently Nargiz Gurbanova is an ambassador to Bulgaria. Bulgaria is an important country for Azerbaijan. From the political point of view, there is never a problem between the two countries, and from an economic point of view, the relations are gaining momentum on energy projects. First of all, the Bulgargaz company signed a 25-year contract on gas purchase with Shah Deniz consortium in September of 2013. The contract will begin in 2020 and will be realized through the connecting belt that will be drawn from Greece to Bulgaria. Azerbaijan will export 1 billion cubic meters of gas to this country within the framework of the Shah Deniz-2 contract, and it is not surprising that a diplomat specializing in energy issues, such as Nargis Gurbanova, is an ambassador to Bulgaria.
Western University is proud of its graduate and wishes her new success!
