The Republican scientific-practical conference on “Global Challenges and Prospects in Economic Development” dedicated to the 99th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev was held on May 11, 2022 by the joint organization of the Department of Finance and Accounting, the Department of Management, the Department of Tourism and Sectoral Economics, the Department of General Economics and the Department of Science of the Western Caspian University.

Initially, a short film about the political activities of the great leader was demonstrated. Opening the conference, Professor Huseyn Bagirov, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Western Caspian University, noted the importance of calling the conference "Global Challenges and Prospects in Economic Development" dedicated to the 99th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev and wished success to the conference.

The academic conference consisted of a plenary session and panel discussions. Corresponding member of ANAS, honored scientist, employee of the Institute of Economics of ANAS, doctor of economic sciences, professor Ali Nuriyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Heydar Aliyev Academy of State Security Service of Azerbaijan Republic Elshad Nasirov, Academy of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Chief of the Customs Service Major-General Gulu Novruzov, Adviser on Science and Foreign Relations of Azerbaijan University of Technology, Doctor of Economics Mayis Gulaliyev, Head of the Department of “Problems of Service Development” of the Institute of Economics of ANAS, Doctor of Economics, Professor Mushvig Atakishiyev, Economics of ANAS Head of the Department of Globalization and International Economic Relations of the Institute, Doctor of Economics, Professor Fuad Ganbarov, Professor of the Department of World Economy and Marketing of Sumgayit State University, Doctor of Economics Shafa Aliyev, Academy of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Doctor of Economics, Professor Safar Purhani, Director of the Center for Additional Education in Innovative Technologies in Education, Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, Associate Professor Isa Gasimov made speeches at the plenary session and delivered their recommendations to the conference participants.

The conference was held in the following sections:

· Integration of Azerbaijan into the world economic system in the context of globalization

· Directions of regulation of financial markets and monetary mechanism

· Development of service areas and innovation management

· Directions of socio-economic development of the regions

· Diversification of industry

About 150 articles and theses from 24 different organizations were submitted to the conference. After the plenary session, the speakers’ articles and theses were heard in Azerbaijani, Russian and English, and certificates were presented to them.
