Chair of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy is a part of the School of Political and Social Sciences. The academic staff of the department consists of 3 associate professors and 2 lecturers.

At the department, students are taught the fundamental principles of philosophical thought, issues of being and cognition, logical structure, and the historical development of philosophical ideas. The courses offered are both theoretical and practical in nature. Through these subjects, the essence of human reason, the nature of knowledge, ethical and aesthetic principles, as well as methods of philosophical inquiry are thoroughly analyzed.

Students are introduced to classical and modern schools of philosophy, as well as various philosophical problems and their historical context. In addition, the application of philosophical concepts and the discussion of contemporary issues contribute to the development of students critical thinking and analytical skills.

The department also offers courses in various fields of law and an introduction to multiculturalism, which play a significant role in shaping students legal and multicultural worldview.

The department covers various branches of philosophy, ranging from Ancient World Philosophy to Modern Philosophy, exploring the historical stages of philosophical development. Courses include Eastern Philosophy, Medieval European Philosophy, the History of Philosophical Thought in Medieval Azerbaijan, Modern Period Philosophy, Non-Classical Philosophy, various philosophical movements, Ethics, Aesthetics, Social Philosophy, Law, and Introduction to Multiculturalism.

The departments research focus is “National Idea and National Ideology.” Faculty members regularly publish articles in various international (SCOPUS-indexed) and local academic journals.
