Bioecology
Programme: Bioecology
Duration: 2 years
Study Mode: Full-time
Academic Plan: PDF
Language of Instruction: Azerbaijani, English, and Russian
About the Programme
The Masters degree in Bioecology is an interdisciplinary programme that explores the laws of change in biological organisms under environmental influence, the dynamics of these changes, their main directions, and, most importantly, the trends in biodiversity transformation in the planets — and specifically Azerbaijans — vegetation cover.
The programme covers key topics such as the theory of ecology and the biosphere, human impact on the environment, the distribution of vegetation and its regulatory role in the biosphere, the influence of climate change on the environment, and the forecasts of international organizations.
Students gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in bioecological sciences, including modern research techniques, remote sensing, analysis of vegetation indices like NDVI depending on temperature (LST) and precipitation (Pr), and the Biomass Accumulation Index (BAI) to assess environmental changes. Western Caspian University provides opportunities for Masters students to engage in various research directions and participate in laboratory investigations.
To obtain a Masters degree, students must complete scientific-research and teaching internships in the final stage of the programme and prepare and defend a dissertation on a given topic.
Graduates of this programme are equipped to work as expert ecologists, studying the impact of human factors, climate change, industrial activity on the environment, vegetation changes, and waste management practices.
